Nikon Unveils D800 DSLR Model

Nikon today has announced two new closely related DSLR cameras, the D800 (pictured here) and the D800E (which is a limited edition model with special software), both of which offer 36.3 megapixels of resolution.

Many of the D800's features will remind you of the Nikon D4 pro-level DSLR model, announced about a month ago. Those wanting to shoot video can shoot at up to 30 frames per second at 1080p HD video, which is great.

I'll have more details in my blog on these cameras closer to their release dates, which are late March for the D800 and in the middle of April for the D800E. Both cameras will cost around $3,000 for the body only.

X-S1 Provides High-End Photography From Fujifilm

Fujifilm's recently announced X-S1 digital camera is a fixed lens camera that includes some high-end features that you may find with a DSLR camera.

The X-S1, which was announced by Fujifilm just before CES 2012, offers a precision Fujinon 26X optical zoom lens. It includes a popup flash and a viewfinder, along with a 3.0-inch, high-resolution LCD.

The highlight of the X-S1, however, is its large image sensor, which is a 2/3-inch sensor. This allows the X-S1 to excel in low light.

You'll find the X-S1 for about $800 (Compare Prices), although the price may vary quite a bit this month, as the X-S1 is so new. You won't find many fixed lens cameras in this price range, so it may be tough for Fujifilm to gain a lot of traction here, but it's impossible to argue with the great features of this camera.

Do You Own a Sony Camera?

If you recently received a Sony camera -- or if you've owned one for quite a while -- please consider sharing your experiences with that camera through a "user review" of a Sony camera.

Although I have a chance to review quite a large number of cameras, I don't have the time or resources to review every Sony camera that's manufactured, so I'm hoping those of you reading this site can post your thoughts on cameras you own, which will help all of the site's readers as they're trying to find great cameras to purchase. Good experiences and bad experiences are both welcomed.

Just click the link below to enter your camera's information, which should require only 3-5 minutes. And, if you own a non-Sony camera, you can find user review forms for other models on the Camera Reviews page when you scroll down.

Stumped for a Valentine's Day Gift?

When it comes to Valentine's Day gifts, you can come up with something practical or something related to the holiday ... or you can come with something that fits both criteria.

Giving a new digital camera is always a great gift idea, and camera manufacturers are delivering more colorful and powerful options than ever.

If you'd like to give a digital camera as a Valentine's Day gift, why not try a red or pink camera? I've compiled a list of the best red and pink cameras currently available, such as the K-x DSLR model from Pentax (pictured here). Through the link, you'll find red and pink cameras at a variety of price points, from less than $100 to around $1,000.

Good luck with your Valentine's Day camera gifts!
